White Mills Theatre Co. presents its newest production, Tales of the Damned—an immersive horror opera based on Goethe’s Faust.
Combining the characters of Shelley’s Frankenstein, Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, the narrative explores the devilish dealings of a house of ill repute and the unlawful experiments hidden behind its doors. Set amidst a masquerade ball, the story follows the murder of a beloved courtesan and the unusual circumstances surrounding the disappearance of her body. With a monstrous figure barring their way, the guests must outwit their captor to expose the killer, and, ultimately, uncover a deal with the Devil that may damn them all. As midnight fast approaches, the characters come to understand the ramifications of playing God, and the devastating consequences when the Devil comes to collect.
